Like most other males during the Vietnam War, in 1967 I faced the decision of what to do after I had completed my MBA at the University of Miami (FL). Essentially, I had a choice of continuing my education, volunteering for one of the military services, or being DRAFTED into the Army! Based upon my having earned all “A’s” (except for one “B”) at the University of Miami, I was offered a full scholarship to work on my Ph.D. in Business Administration while teaching part-time at the university. This option would have probably enabled me to avoid military service. However, while I had no interest in a military career at that time, I honestly felt that I should fulfill my military commitments to my country. Becoming a Supply Corps Officer in the US Navy promised to offer me an excellent opportunity to use my formal education while gaining valuable ‘hands-on’ training and experience.
